UNO Solar Boat

Congratulations to the University of New Orleans Solar Boat Team on their multiple victories at Solar Splash 2011. UNO has been participating in the international solar boat competition since its inception, and is a repeat champion in the Sprint and Endurance races. Solar Alternatives is proud to be the sponsor and solar supplier for the team and is witness to the hard work invested by UNO engineering students for this exciting event.

The UNO School of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (N.A.M.E.) Solar/Electric boat team began in 1996 where it first competed in the Solar Splash, the World Championship of Intercollegiate Solar/Electric Boat Racing. Under the leadership of numerous students, the e-boat project has grown into the prominent extracurricular design project for N.A.M.E. students and other engineering majors. In May 2010, the team won 1st place overall  at the World Championships, and 1st in both the Sprint and Endurance Championships. The last 9 years that UNO has competed, it has been Sprint World Champions 8 times! UNO has set multiple speed records including the current record: 22.32 seconds over 300 meters in the 2009 Final, over 35 mph!
